Established in late 1950, our club emerged from a public meeting that led to the selection of our present site, after determining that an alternative location was unsuitable. Initially featuring six holes, the club was officially opened in 1951 by our first President, Sir Horrie Niall, accompanied by a humorous air swing from Club Captain Clare Jeffers. Over the years, our course has evolved, expanding to nine holes with the introduction of Goroka Couch and later becoming the first 18-hole course in Papua New Guinea. Lae Golf Club, incorporated in 1973, has witnessed significant transformations, including the addition of bunkers and trees, creating a more challenging experience.
With an array of amenities such as tennis courts, a bowling green, a basketball court, and a forthcoming world-class driving range, our club continues to uphold its reputation as the premier course and facility in Papua New Guinea. We have proudly hosted prestigious events, including national and international championships, as well as PGA tournaments.
